Austin is familiar with the complex, political and geographical challenges facing western resources. Austin is involved in various environmental and water matters throughout the Western United States. His careful planning for each project attemps to take into account the protection of biologically sensitive locations in order to preserve natural features and open-space. His commitment to the environment has allowed for the preservations of thousands of acres that provide wildlife corridors, habitat areas, while equally allowing for public benefit.

Austin formerly served on the National Park System Advisory Board as appointed by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior.
